Why I Refuse to Use Face-Altering Filters in 2025
2025
The Task

Source archive imagery for an article on the homogenising effect of face-altering filters, and what their unchecked rise teaches the next generation of women being raised online. Brief called for a single visual hook strong enough to hold a long-form opinion piece without distracting from the writing.

The Outcome

Licensed a 1969 Keystone archive frame from Getty Images: a model wearing comically oversized glasses that magnify her eyes. The vintage physical filter mirrors the digital ones the essay critiques, sharpening the central argument that distorting how we appear is not a new instinct, but one that has evolved over time.
